Louisville Receives Major Transfer Portal News on Saturday
After spending three seasons with his previous college football program, a productive defensive back hit the transfer portal. That player was safety Corey Gordon Jr., who exited Baylor via the portal. On Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Gordon had landed with the Louisville Cardinals. Gordon is one of three former members of Baylor’s secondary to hit the portal. The Bears have also lost cornerbacks Tay’Shawn Wilson and Isaiah Dunson. To say that Baylor had a rough start to 2024 would be an understatement. The Bears were 2-4 through six games but went on a six-game winning streak to achieve bowl eligibility.
Gordon was a former three-star prospect in the 2022 class. He was the No. 85 safety in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings.
Gordon did not see much playing time as a freshman in 2022, appearing in two games for Baylor. His playing time increased in 2023, where he played in 11 games with four starts.
This season, Gordon played in 12 games and started three of them. From 2022-24 at Baylor, he recorded 64 total tackles, three TFLs, three interceptions and six passes defended. Gordon was tied for the lead in interceptions (3) at Baylor with fellow safety Devyn Bobby. Louisville has added 16 players and 18 through the portal. The Cardinals’ top transfer additions include former USC quarterback Miller Moss, former Charlotte edge rusher Demon Clowney and former Minnesota wideout TJ McWilliams. Louisville has also suffered significant transfer losses. Running back Don Chaney Jr., corner Aaron Williams Jr., and receiver Jimmy Calloway are among the top portal losses.
In addition to the portal exits, Louisville lost starting quarterback Tyler Shough after he declared for the 2025 NFL draft before the Sun Bowl against Washington. Then, after the 35-34 win over Washington, the starter for that game, Harrison Bailey, announced he was entering the transfer portal. Louisville finished the year at 9-4 after the Sun Bowl victory.
