Leicester City to miss out on transfer target as Premier League rival ‘advancing’ on £30m deal
Leicester City are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
The Foxes are in danger of being relegated back down to the Championship at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Leicester City were once again beaten this past weekend, leaving them down in 19th in the Premier League table with over half a season played.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | For | Against | Diff | Points |
17 | Wolves | 20 | 4 | 4 | 12 | 31 | 45 | -14 | 16 |
18 | Ipswich | 20 | 3 | 7 | 10 | 20 | 35 | -15 | 16 |
19 | Leicester | 20 | 3 | 5 | 12 | 23 | 44 | -21 | 14 |
20 | Southampton | 20 | 1 | 3 | 16 | 12 | 44 | -32 | 6 |
As they bid to make a push for survival in the second half of 2024/25, Leicester have been linked with several players.
However, we’re eight days into the winter window and no new arrivals have been forthcoming.
To make matters worse, one of the club’s reported transfer targets looks likely to join a Premier League rival.
It was reported in December that Leicester want to sign Abdukodir Khusanov from French outfit, RC Lens.
The news at the time claimed Premier League champions Manchester City also held an interest in the centre-back.
And now, Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the situation via X/Twitter, suggesting the Sky Blues are favourites to sign Khusanov.
He wrote: “Manchester City are now advancing on a deal for Abdukodir Khusanov. 20-year-old centre-back is on the radar of several clubs, including Newcastle and Spurs. MCFC currently ahead of their Premier League rivals and willing to meet Len’s asking price, which is over £30m.”
