MLB Rumors: Dodgers Finalize Contract With $13 Million Star Reliever
The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen just got even better. On Tuesday, the Dodgers finalized a one-year, $13 million contract with free agent reliever Kirby Yates, who passed a physical after agreeing to terms last week, according to multiple reports. MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand was the first to report the news, which ESPN’s Jeff Passan corroborated.
Yates’ contract reportedly includes an incentive that would boost the total value to $14 million.
“Right-handed reliever Kirby Yates and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million contract, sources tell ESPN,” Passan wrote Tuesday. “Can get up to $14M with 55 games. Deal is done. The Dodgers’ bullpen gets even stronger. First on Yates’ physical being passed was Feinsand” Yates, 37, remains one of the top relievers in baseball. After primarily working in a setup role with the Atlanta Braves in 2022 and 2023, Yates dominated for the Texas Rangers last season with a 1.17 ERA and 33 saves in 61 appearances. The Dodgers’ signing of Yates came on the heels of deals with elite reliever Tanner Scott and Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki.
However, Los Angeles now must deal with a roster crunch, which reportedly could result in a trade involving former Boston Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier.Read more at: https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/article299362269.html#storylink=cpy
