Arsenal have made no signings during the winter transfer window, but there could be some activity soon.
The Gunners are short in the final third after injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. Manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that the club is exploring options in the transfer market.
Calciomercato claimed today that Arsenal have made contact with the representative of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who could leave Turin before the transfer deadline.
The Bianconeri are on the verge of signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani on loan. This could pave the way for Vlahovic’s exit due to his contract situation.
Vlahovic has less than 18 months left on his contract and has yet to agree to fresh terms. Juventus are open to sanctioning his sale for £42 million to £51 million this winter.
Arsenal have some room to negotiate with the Bianconeri, but the time will not be infinite. It is claimed that Juventus want a replacement if the Serbian were to depart.
Vlahovic would be a risky gamble for Arsenal
The 24-year-old was compared with Erling Haaland during his time at Fiorentina. He made the switch to Juventus in January 2022 after a fantastic year with 34 goals.
He has since struggled to score with the same consistency. Vlahovic has only 53 goals from 125 appearances for the Bianconeri. 12 of those have come this season.
In our view, signing Vlahovic on a permanent basis would be a risky gamble. The striker has failed to meet expectations since his big-money move to Turin after rejecting Arsenal.
The Serbian striker has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of only 13 percent in Serie A this season and has missed 12 big chances.
In comparison, Kai Havertz has converted 18 percent of his Premier League shots into goals. He has squandered 11 big chances.
We don’t see much of a difference. Vlahovic also has a worrying injury record and has picked up several niggles in his time at Juventus.
Arsenal should propose a loan with an option to buy for Vlahovic to assess whether he can adapt to the higher intensity of English football.
